DEGEN 1103

The quest for the ultimate pocket radio has begun !
The ideal pocket radio should be at ease in FM (+fm stereo via the earphone plug), MW, be able to receive some stations in SW, shouldn't drain the batteries in no time and welcome additions would be an MP3 player, BT interface, solar panel, possibility to charge the internal batteries via an usb connector.

DEGEN 1103

This was the second multibands pocket radio i've bought, after the Grundig YB-400.

FM Reception: 9/10. Very good reception, and FM is stereo via the earphone jack. This radio shines on FM !
RDS Display: n/a
MW Reception: 8/10. Quite sensitive, but maybe not as good as my Tecsun PL-380.
LW Reception: 7/10.
SW Reception: 9/10. Very good!
Air Band: n/a
HF Amateur bands: 8/10. will cover all the HF amateur bands, and includes an SSB mode. SSB fine tuning is very easy to use.
VHF/UHF Amateur bands: n/a
CB Band: yes
Rechargeable Battery: Uses 4 x AA batteries, and you can charge them from the included adapter plug (not USB).
Speaker sound quality: 7.5/10. Not bad at all, probably better than most pocket radios.
Ease of use: 6/10. That's where this radio sucks a little bit. Excepted for the tuning, fine tuning, everything is done via the buttons, even the volume control. But there's no dedicated vol+/vol- buttons ... you first have to press the vol button on the upper left side, then use the tuning control. Not very user friendly...
Preset memories: 9/10. Lots of space to store the stations. Storing and using presets is quite easy.
MP3 Player: n/a
Bluetooth: n/a
Aux input: n/a
Solar panel: n/a
Record on SD card: n/a

My last thoughts:

I warmly recommend this radio, for those who :

- Want a good DX pocket machine
- Want to listen to amateur bands in SSB

Things I don't like:

Battery life is not very good

The fastest way to pack for moving is to pack room by room, leave things as they’re (leave drawers full, leave hanging clothes on their hangers, leave folded clothes in the dresser, etc.), and not fuss over non-breakable items. It’s crucial to have helpers, too. Click Here for more Details:Cross Country Moving
